Shots and musings from San Diego based photographer, David Phillipich

New Class in the Studio

We let the new class have a fun day in the studio to break up the monotony of Fine Art Printing and they decided to go retro on us.  Crazy hair, crazy make-up, Iced Tea (as Jack Daniels) and unlit cigarettes.  It was refreshing to see a group of young photographers so eager to get in the studio and have some fun.   They didn’t concern themselves with the lighting set-up or the f-stops…it was an exploration of raucousity.  (I’m aware that’s not a word, but it should be.)

I threw the Pocket Wizard on top of my Canon for a few quick shots and then I too, willingly, became a prop in their “pin-up” shoot.  I looked like a dark-haired version of James Dean in the Rebel Without a Cause, only not at all.
